You are cordially invited to register to the Conference Cocktail on Monday evening, 18th of July starting at 20h00. The cocktail takes place in the Museum of Confluences.

At the cocktail, you will assist at the official opening of the 23rd General Meeting of the International Mineralogical Association, IMA2022.
Several mineralogical societies will have the opportunity to award national and international prizes and medals.
Finally the Year of Mineralogy 2022 will be launched!

After the ceremony you will freely roam for the entire evening in the Museum of Confluences, the newest museum in the city, the flagship of the museological landscape of Lyon. A specific exhibition on the place of mineralogy in our society will open its doors with this occasion.

 

The Musée des Confluences is characterised by its name and its architectural form. The term "confluences" refers, first of all, to an exceptional geographical location. Immediately downstream from the museum, the waters of the Rhône and the Saône meet and already evoke the notions of mixing, blending and fluidity.

The concept developed by the Austrian agency CoopHimmelb(l)au is based on the idea of building a museum that does not hinder access to nature, but rather constitutes a passage from the built elements to nature. Conceived as a bridge, the museum allows the visitor to cross its hall and spaces without being forced to buy a ticket and go to an exhibition.

From the outside, the museum does not have the main facade, but rather many facets that, depending on the point of view, create a singular, fluid and moving silhouette.

To experience this building is to enter into the museum's purpose. The architecture materializes this balance between inside and outside, between the present and history, and between nature and culture. Like the waters of the Rhône and the Saône, which mingle over several kilometres after the confluence, the museum participates in its environment as much as it explains it.

The museum's architecture is highly functional and can be adapted to accommodate the public and the conservation and presentation of collections. In addition to the base, on which it rests like a bridge on its pillars, two distinct elements make up the museum. Bathed in light, the Cristal, its monumental hall, opens up to the city and invites visitors to come and visit. The Cloud houses the permanent exhibition and the temporary exhibitions.
